Here’s What You Should Know before You Buy an ATV!

Feb 15, 2022 | Blog

All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) often come with a ton of adventures! These vehicles can be used for work or play, and they provide hours upon hours of fun. If you’re planning to buy one, there are several factors that have to be considered.

We will explore the ATV and everything that has to be looked into before a purchase is made. A good rule of thumb is to take an ATV tour first, so you can safely practise riding one.

The ATV: What Is It

This particular vehicle is also referred to as a quad bike. It can have three, four, or even six wheels. Unlike a motorcycle, they are generally equipped with at least two wheels and are often used for recreation. Whereas these vehicles run on low-pressure tires and can travel over rough terrain and unpaved surfaces, they also come equipped with handlebars for steering control instead of using a wheel for this purpose.

As previously mentioned, an ATV tour will go a long way before you make a purchase. The company behind the tour will also be able to explain all the necessary information. All of that said, when you start, be sure to take it slow. Aside from getting a good feel for the vehicle, you can avoid accidents and lessen risk.

Types of ATVs

There are numerous sizes and shapes that are available when it comes to ATVs. You should consider the main purpose you’re buying one so you can see what’s best for you. Is this a purchase meant for fun, or does it involve more of a work expense? Who will be using it for the most part, a child or an adult?

These motor vehicles come in three main types:

Sport ATVs

Thrill-seekers and adventurers will suit this motor vehicle best. Any bumps, quick turns and jumps will be navigated with ease. They’re responsive, lightweight, agile and fast. All of that said, the vehicle’s performance or aesthetic can still be enhanced with modifications.

Beginners are not recommended to start with these particular types. It’s mainly because of their speed capabilities.

Utility ATVs

Commercial settings often have these ATVs in use. Purposes for taking on this ATV in particular include:

  • Camping
  • Fishing
  • Hauling at construction sites
  • Hunting
  • Ploughing at agricultural sites

Engines for this type of ATV are very strong, dealing with hills and large rocks. They are also equipped to carry significant loads.

Youth ATVs

As the name suggests, this ATV is meant for teenagers and children. It’s made to accommodate ages and sizes. Safety is a high priority here; the transmission is generally automatic to eliminate any need for shifting gears. It has a limited speedmaster and moderate engine.

Depending on the model, the engine will turn off if a child falls off.

Conclusion

ATVs are great vehicles and it’s no wonder that they’re used for both work and play. It can be used for ploughing agricultural fields, camping and even hauling at construction sites. The three main types of ATVs are youth, sport and utility.
